Waiting for Resurrection.............shared by K J S Chatrath

Continuing my self propelled endeavor to visit & photograph some broken heritage Hindu temples across India I visited Katakshpur Trikuta Temples broken and dilapidated temples in 2026.

Dr. KJS Chatrath, Retd. Civil Servant's Plea for Repair - Restoration - Care of our Heritage Temples

I, Dr KJS Chatrath, retired civil servant and heritage photographer, make this humble plea after visiting the Katakshapur Trikuta Temples (Katakshapur Kakatiya Shivalayam), 33 km from Warangal.

Here, in the midst of green weeds and fallen plinth stones, lies a 13th Century Kakatiya sculpture — weathered, unattended, yet dignified. It is waiting for resurrection.

This twin Trikuta shrine is a protected monument of the Kakatiya period. Once part of the great cultural landscape of Warangal, the capital of the Kakatiyas, it is now dilapidated. Loose sculptures, carved beams and pillars are scattered in the open, exposed to rain, cattle and encroaching vegetation.

My plea is simple:

Should we not first take care of the heritage temples built by our ancestors, before we rush to construct new ones?

New temples can be built anytime. But a 800-year-old stone, once lost, can never be recreated.

I appeal to:

  1. Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Telangana and ASI to provide a temporary sculpture shed, fencing and regular vegetation clearance at Katakshapur.
  2. Local administration to include these twin Trikuta temples in the Warangal heritage tourism circuit with proper signage.
  3. Citizens and devotees to treat these ruins not as rubble, but as our living history.

Let us preserve what our ancestors left for us, with respect and urgency.
