'Impressive sculptures at Archaeology Office compound in Kamalapur, Hampi, India, Part-I' - by K J S Chatrath

Hampi in Karnataka, India is a popular tourist destination. In fact it has so much to offer that a number of tourists miss out on some excellent places for want of time. One should keep 5 full days, if not more, in Hampi.

Oneimpressive but rarely visited site is the office of the Deputy Director of Archeology in Kamalapur. A number of fantastic images have been put on display in the compound of this office. There is no ticket and one is free to take photographs.

I spent some time in this compound three months back and here are a few photos taken by me there:

Veerabhadra, 14th - 15th century AD, Vijayanagara, Sirigere.

Nandi, 14th-15th century AD, Vijayanagara, T.B. River, Purandarasar, Mantapa.

Veerabhadra, 14th-15th century AD, Vijayanagara, Kolur.

Head portion Harihara, Vijaynagara.

 Turret, Chaulakya, 15th century AD.

Sridevi, 14th-15th century AD, Vijayanagara, Marmmanagudi, Kamalapura.

 Mahasati Stone, 14th-15th century, Vijayanagar.

This sculpture is from Chaulakya, Badami dating back to 6th-7th century AD.
